You want to build a tool for your business without hiring an agency, and four names keep coming up: Lovable, Bolt, Cursor and Claude Code. They all promise to turn a description into an application. In reality, they do not target the same people and do not deliver the same result. Picking the wrong one often means losing several weeks and a few subscriptions. This comparison, from Lovable vs Bolt to Cursor and Claude Code, gives you verified prices, the real technical level of each tool, what happens to your code, and a recommendation based on your project.
Lovable, Bolt, Cursor, Claude Code: two families of tools
Before comparing features, you need to understand that these four tools fall into two families.
Browser-based app builders: Lovable and Bolt. You open a website, describe your application in a chat window, and watch the result appear next to it, live. Hosting is built in: one click gives you a web address. No software to install, no technical knowledge needed to get started.
AI-assisted development tools: Cursor and Claude Code. They work on files, usually on your computer. Cursor is a code editor with built-in AI; Claude Code is an agent that carries out complete tasks (writing, testing, fixing) from your instructions. They offer much more freedom, but you handle going live and organizing the project yourself.
In short: the first family is faster for a prototype, the second goes further for a tool you plan to keep running. If you are still unsure about the approach itself, our article on vibe coding vs no-code helps you decide upstream.
The comparison table: pricing, audience, hosting, code ownership
Prices taken from the official websites at the time of writing (September 2026). They change often: check the current price before subscribing.
| Tool | Type | Who it is for | Technical level | Pricing | Hosting | Code ownership |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lovable | Browser-based app builder | Entrepreneurs who want a prototype or a simple tool quickly | Very low | Limited free plan (5 credits per day, up to 30 per month); Pro at about $25 per month | Included, custom domain on paid plans | You own the code; two-way sync with GitHub |
| Bolt | Browser-based app builder | Entrepreneurs who want to test ideas and publish fast | Very low | Free (1 million tokens per month); Pro at about $25 per month | Included (Bolt hosting or Netlify), Bolt branding on the free plan | Project download as a ZIP; GitHub integration |
| Cursor | Code editor with built-in AI, to install | People comfortable with code or willing to learn | Medium to high | Limited free Hobby plan; Pro at about $20, Pro+ at about $60, Ultra at about $200 per month | Not included: plan for a hosting provider | Files on your computer, fully yours |
| Claude Code | Development agent (desktop app, web, terminal, editors) | Entrepreneurs ready to steer a project methodically | Low to medium with the desktop app | Included in Claude Pro at about $20 per month; Max from about $100; no free version | Not included: Claude Code can prepare and run the deployment on the host you choose | Files on your computer, fully yours |
An often overlooked point: with Lovable and Bolt, the listed price is not the final cost. Every request uses credits or tokens, and a complex application uses a lot of them quickly. Lovable also states that hosting a small app is covered by the included credits, but that a high-traffic app can lead to extra charges.
Lovable: free or paid, and in other languages?
Lovable offers a free plan that grants 5 credits per day, up to 30 per month. That is enough to try the tool and build a first mockup, not to run a real project. The Pro plan, at about $25 per month, adds a monthly pool of credits and custom domains. A Business plan, at about $50 per month, targets teams.
Language: the interface is in English, but you can write your requests in other languages, French included, and ask for an application entirely in that language. Say so in your very first request to avoid mixed languages in buttons and messages.
"Create an application for a coaching practice: a home page, an appointment request form and an area where I see the list of requests. All visible text must be in English, in a professional tone."
On ownership, Lovable states that you own the code on all its plans. It is standard code (React, TypeScript, Tailwind) that you can sync with GitHub and take elsewhere, for example into Claude Code, if your project grows.
Bolt.new vs Lovable vs Cursor: which one for a first project?
Bolt and Lovable are very close in use: you describe, the application appears, you publish. The differences lie mostly in the details of the plans. Bolt's free plan is more generous for experimenting (on the order of one million tokens per month, with a daily limit), but it displays Bolt branding on your sites. Lovable puts more emphasis on applications with a database and user accounts, which it sets up for you. Both let you retrieve the code.
Cursor plays in another category. It is a code editor: you see every file and the AI helps you write and edit them. For an entrepreneur with no technical background, the step is high: you need to understand a project's structure, install tools and handle going live. For a first non-technical project, Bolt or Lovable will be more comfortable.
Our advice for choosing between Bolt and Lovable: test both on the free plan with exactly the same request, and keep the one whose first result is closest to what you had in mind. For a simple showcase website, our article on building a website with AI for free also covers lighter options.
The method matters more than the tool
In 5 days, you put your own web tool online by steering a team of AI agents that writes the specification, codes and deploys. A client portal, a calculator or a product to sell, without writing code.
Discover Vibe Coding IA ProCursor vs Claude Code: differences and pricing
This is the most requested comparison among people who want to go beyond a prototype. Both use AI to write code on your computer, but their logic differs.
- Cursor is centered on the editor. You browse the files, the AI suggests completions and an agent can make changes on request. It is the tool for someone who wants to keep an eye on every line.
- Claude Code is centered on delegation. You describe the task, it plans, writes, runs the tests and fixes. It works in the Claude desktop app (Code tab), on the web, in the terminal, and even as an extension inside VS Code or Cursor.
Cursor AI pricing: at the time of writing, Cursor offers a free Hobby plan with limited agent usage, then Pro at about $20 per month, Pro+ at about $60 and Ultra at about $200, each tier increasing the included usage. The Teams plan starts at about $40 per user per month. Note that Cursor is now part of SpaceX, which completed the acquisition in August 2026, and the tool highlights Grok models alongside other models on the market.
Claude Code is included in the Claude Pro subscription (about $20 per month, about $17 billed annually), which also gives access to Claude for writing, to Cowork and to other features. For heavy use, the Max plan starts at about $100 per month. There is no free version of Claude Code. Our Claude Code tutorial for beginners covers installation and a first project.
Lovable vs Claude Code, Lovable vs Cursor: when to switch tools?
Many entrepreneurs start with Lovable, then run into its limits as the project grows: every fix uses credits, some changes break others, and it becomes hard to stay in control of the whole. That is often the time to move to Claude Code or Cursor.
Lovable vs Claude Code: Lovable is faster to get a first visible version, with nothing to install. Claude Code requires a bit more preparation, but it works on files you control, at a fixed monthly cost, and it can follow a detailed specification step by step. For a tool that must last, handle payments or evolve regularly, that control makes the difference.
Lovable vs Cursor: if you do not plan to read the code, Cursor will mostly add complexity. If you have a technical profile or a developer by your side, Cursor takes over naturally: a Lovable project synced to GitHub opens directly in the editor.
Moving from one to the other is possible thanks to Lovable's GitHub sync. Your first choice does not lock you in.
What is the best vibe coding tool for you?
There is no best tool in absolute terms, only a tool suited to your project. Here is our decision grid:
- You want to test an idea in an afternoon, show a mockup to clients or validate a concept: Lovable or Bolt, on the free plan.
- You want a simple internal tool (form, tracking table, calculator) and do not want to install anything: Lovable or Bolt on a paid plan.
- You want a tool that lasts, with user accounts, payments or client data, and a controlled cost: Claude Code, with a rigorous working method.
- You are a developer or work with one: Cursor or Claude Code, depending on whether you prefer to see the code or delegate complete tasks.
If your project is a real product to sell, our article on building a SaaS with AI without coding describes the full method, from idea to online payment.
Mistakes to avoid
Choosing the tool before defining the project. First write, on one page, what your tool must do, for whom, and what is out of scope. The right tool then becomes obvious.
Underestimating credit consumption. On Lovable and Bolt, ten back-and-forths to fix a button cost as much as ten new features. Precise requests save you credits and time.
Never retrieving your code. Even if everything works, connect your project to GitHub from the start. It is your backup and your way out.
Going live without checking security. A tool generated in minutes can expose data if it is not reviewed. Always ask for a security review before sharing the address.
FAQ: Lovable, Bolt, Cursor and Claude Code
Is Lovable free or paid?
Both. The free plan gives 5 credits per day (up to 30 per month), enough to test. For a real project, the Pro plan costs about $25 per month at the time of writing.
Lovable or Bolt: which one to choose?
They are very close. Bolt is more generous for free experimentation, Lovable is more focused on applications with a database. Test both with the same request and keep the more convincing one.
Cursor or Claude Code: which one for a non-developer?
Claude Code, used from the Claude desktop app, is more accessible: you delegate tasks in plain language without browsing the code. Cursor better suits people who want to read and edit the code themselves.
What is the best vibe coding tool in 2026?
For a quick prototype, Lovable or Bolt. For a lasting tool you control, Claude Code. The quality of the result, however, depends more on the method (scoping, specification, testing) than on the tool.
How do you learn to build a real tool with these tools?
By following a structured method rather than piling up attempts. That is what the Vibe Coding IA Pro bootcamp is about: in 5 days, you put your own tool online with the P.R.O.D. method, without coding.
